Angel Technology Releases Video Demonstrating the Benefits of Portable Personal Health Records (PHR)

Almost 100,000 Americans die each year from medical mistakes and a lack of personal health information that -- if immediately available -- may have saved their lives. With the federal government and business organizations looking closely at Personal Health Records (PHR), consumers may soon be empowered with their own PHR. This fall, [2006 Rep. Patrick Kennedy (D-R.I.) introduced a bill providing physicians a $2 incentive for each patient for whom they create a PHR.
Business groups have also called for the increased use of technology and PHRs, which according to the Institute of Medicine and the Institute of Healthcare Improvement, could foster a "culture of safety" on the path to reducing the mortality rate by 25 percent per year by 2010.
Angel Technology offers a suite of mobile emergency medical information products, including Angel Key, a portable device that first responders plug into a PC's USB port providing PHR's. An individual's PHR is uploaded after a simple online interview. The information is then automatically structured as a medical 'Blotter' online that can be duplicated onto any Angel device.
In an emergency, first responders can access the crucial information through the Internet (Angel Online), by cell or landline phone (Angel Voice), or by inserting the Angel Key directly into on-board personal computers. Angel devices automatically launches the owner's 14 critical facts that emergency workers need to know, such as allergies, blood type, medications and existing medical conditions without providing names, addresses or other sensitive information if the Angel were lost or stolen.
The information carried on Angel is not part of a global network of databases of pharmaceutical insurance or other companies with medical affiliations. It is not shared with clinics, HMOs, hospitals, banks or employers, which puts the individual in charge of their information. Angel is for the consumer to use to fulfill their own healthcare needs.
