From New Orleans to London: The Imprints "Intro" Concept Music Video Goes Global
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 7, 2007 -- "Intro," the concept music video tribute to pre-Katrina New Orleans, has been accepted into the prestigious Portobello Film Festival in London. Scheduled to screen on August 16, shortly before the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's devastation, "Intro" is the only American music video selected by the PFF, the U.K.'s biggest independent film competition. The music video is a rare Pre-Katrina view of NOLA's gritty, colorful Ninth Ward from the New York/NOLA-based performance group, The Imprints (http://www.imprintscurrentprojects.com).
Built around the the New Orleans band, the Morning 40 Federation, and filmed six months before Katrina, "Intro" was planned as an affectionate welcome into the color, personalities and music of the Ninth Ward/Bywater neighborhood, a gritty area of pastel colored Creole cottages and shotgun house-lined streets. Katrina and its lingering aftermath have since recast 'Intro" as a time capsule, a tribute, and a memorial.
"As we near the second anniversary of Katrina, we should remember that devastation still remains," said Bill Poznanski, writer/director of the video, and Artistic Director of The Imprints. "It's moving for us to see 'Intro" now because some of the people and places in it aren't around anymore. It's become a tribute to the spirit of the Ninth Ward and New Orleans. We hope will inspire everyone to support NOLA's rebirth."
"Intro" presents a slice of NOLA never seen before and never to be seen again: Dr. Bob (who creates "Be Nice or Leave" signs); Okra The Fruit Man (whose huckster voice opens the video); the late Mr. P, the "Obi-Wan" of the Bywater; Markey's Bar; the Cane Rum Distillery; the Keep it Real Barber Shop and its late owner, Clifton, and more. The video climaxes with a second-line parade up Lesseps St. with the legendary Treme Brass Band, the famous Pussyfooters Drill Team?and, of course, the Morning 40 Federation. The M40F, long time advocates/residents of the Ninth Ward, are the perfect choice to "Intro" their neighborhood to the world, using their bawdy lyrics, zany antics and high octane musical cocktail of jazz, vaudeville, circus, punk, RnB, and funk.
Honors bestowed upon "Intro" include "the Best of New Orleans" by Gambit Magazine; in January, the No Exit Music Video Competition ranked it among the world's top 25 and Bill Poznanski was a finalist for "Best Director." CNN has featured "Intro" clips in its news reporting. "Intro" has been screened at the Coney Island Film Festival, the Invisible Film Festival in New York City, the Hell on Reels Film Festival in Queens, NY, and the New Vision Cinema Series. The video has been hailed on such websites as Rhapsody.com, Hollywoodpreviews.com, Havoctv.com, Roxwel.com and elsewhere.
"Intro" was directed by Bill Poznanski, a.k.a. Bill Imprint, artistic director of The Imprints, a New York City/East Village based performance art group, now in its 27th year. The Imprints are dedicated to the cultural renewal of New Orleans.
