Success of Controlling Emerald Ash Borer Video Released on YouTube
Birmingham, MI (PRWEB) August 12, 2008 -- A video showing the successful control and treatment of Emerald Ash Borer was released on the YouTube Web site today.
Although EAB has destroyed millions of Ash trees throughout the Midwest, the "Saving Ash Trees from Emerald Ash Borer" video shows Ash trees that have been treated since 2001 surviving and flourishing within a residential neighborhood in Plymouth, Michigan. It also provides background on EAB and shows a non-drilling application of an insecticide which delivers chemical inside the tree at a known dose rate with no environmental exposure.
The video is hosted by Dr. Dave Roberts, specialist and district horticulture agent with Michigan State University Extension, who first identified Emerald Ash Borer in the United States in 2002. The recommended treatment as shown in the video is for annual applications of the insecticide Pointer in areas with heavy infestations or in the curative stages and the use of it every other year in preventive situations. Pointer, an Imidacloprid product from ArborSystems that is labeled by the EPA for two-year control, is used along with various fertilizers and root stimulants to keep the trees healthy. The most effective application method is to utilize trunk injections that do not require drilling, since the holes permanently damage a tree's ability to move and store water and other nutrients.
The original 24 minute video was created for homeowners, commercial property owners and municipalities. It features real life examples of the most efficient remedy and procedure for healing and saving Ash trees rather than destroying or cutting them down.
